Problem With Procrastination? Try This: Do Nothing - Gretchen Rubin

Image
Just about anyone who has ever put off a troublesome task is familiar with one of my  Secrets of Adulthood :  Working is one of the most dangerous forms of procrastination . When there’s some chore you just don’t want to tackle, every other chore seems alluring. As a friend told me, “My apartment is never cleaner than when I have a writing assignment due.” In Roy Baumeister and John Tierney’s fascinating book,  Willpower: Rediscovering the Greatest Human Strength , they suggest the “Nothing Alternative” to this problem. That is,  if you want to get yourself to do something, make the alternative to that task to  do nothing .

FINAL SPEECH- EDITED

Good Evening everybody! I will be ungrateful if I do not thank God for bringing me this far. I also want to use this opportunity to thank; 1. The management of SEND SL for the opportunity given me to serve in the capacity as FAM 2. The staff of SEND SL, especially Gumah, Mr. Osman, Lansana and Ann who prepare the way for me. 3. My Pastor friends: Pastor Songu, Pastor Ken Ful lah, Pastor Adu, Rev. Mrs Baihinga 4. And the Family of Mr. and Mrs. Osman Daniel Kamara for making me feel at home in Kailahun. Greatness starts with being good. “America is not strong because of its security nor their resources. America is great because it’s kind and good” said by President Obama. You cannot be a great leader when you cannot make those you are leading great. An important person is the one who makes others important and a great organization is the one that cares for its employees as much as it cares for its other stakeholders. Greatness begins with goodness... So for me, my great moments in K...

TEACH US TO PRAY, LORD!

Image
It is very interesting how people refused knowledge and give some stupid excuses. The ones that most of the time made me mad are Christians especially Men of God. I find it very difficult to understand because the Bible tells me the Holy Spirit will lead us into all truths. The sad news is that, most Christians do not even know the operations of the Spirit let alone to let Him guide them. Secondly, most believers do not know how to pray. For example, I counselled a woman recently concerning her marriage. The husband left her for another woman and she prayed on five different occasions when the man attempted to marry the other woman, that God should not allow it to happen. According to her, the marriage never happened. So I asked her, what do you want God to do in this situation. She told me she wants the husband back and I said but you never ask God for that. God is answering your prayers but you are praying the wrong prayers. I then ask her to first pray for God to ...

‎"THE SECOND WORD OF JESUS ON THE CROSS IS AN OPPORTUNITY WELL USED" Luke 23: 41-43.

”Responding, the other criminal spoke harshly to him, “Don’t you fear God, seeing that you’ve also been sentenced to die? We are rightly condemned, for we are receiving the appropriate sentence for what we did. But this man has done nothing wrong.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus replied, “I assure you that today you will be with me in paradise.” Luke‬ ‭23‬:‭40‬-‭43‬ ‭CEB‬‬ I think the two criminals crucified alongside Jesus got the best opportunity ever, but unfortunately one of them didn't know. On the other hand, the second criminal recognized this opportunity and he made it to heaven. There is a great price to pay for being ignorant. It was not only the second criminal that seized the opportunity, Jesus also made good use of the same opportunity to add one more soul to His Father's Kingdom. The reason is that Jesus knew His purpose on earth and therefore made good use of every little opportunity He has.  The question is what are you...

11.11.11

Image
I always look out for these special dates. Almost always something memorable happens to me. But  11.11.11 is something else to talk about. In fact, I have not been happy the whole day for no reason. So just as I was trying to do some work in the office, I remembered today is Rev. Tei-Mati's birthday. Actually, I thought it was the wife's birthday but latter learnt it was his. He is a good father, I tell you. Those days Asiwome and I used to give him lots of headaches. One particular one I'll never forget is the famous Danquah circle accident. Anyway... I was so sad and missing home at a point I left the office. I prepared something ate and decided to take a little nap. Around 3:45pm, I went back to the office, then the first news I saw on the net was a bad one, my man Tiger Woods passed away. It was a difficult news to take and thank God it was a false news. He is very much alive. I never liked golf, but I used to watch this man play. Please don't ask any ques...

SOME THOUGHTS!

Image
Be careful what you set your heart upon, for you will surely have it. Nothing can bring you peace, but yourself. There are many who are living far below their possibilities because they are continually handing over their individuality to others. Do you want to be a power in the world? Then be yourself. Never loose an opportunity of seeing anything that is beautiful; for beauty is God's handwriting - a wayside sacrament. Welcome it in every fair face, in every fair sky, in every fair flower and thank God for it as a cup of blessing. Once you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen. Keep your thoughts positive, because your thoughts become your words. Then your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values and on on it goes. Keep away from your people who belittle your ambitions. Some you called your friends always do that, but the really great and true  friends make you feel that you too can b...

A PASTOR WITH GUTS by Asiwome Tei-Mati

Thought you might enjoy this interesting  prayer given in Kansas at  the opening session of their Senate. It seems  prayer still upsets some  people.. When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the usual generalities, but this is what they heard:     Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask  your forgiveness and to seek your direction and  guidance. We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those  who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we  have done.   We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed  our values.  We have exploited the poor and called it   the lottery.   We have rewarded laziness and called it  welfare..   We have killed our unborn and called it  choice.   We have shot abortionists and called it  justifiable.   We have neglected to discipline our  children...

WORKPLACE POLITICS, NO ONE WINS!

Image
For the few years I worked, I had bitter experiences of politics at workplaces. On impulse I also developed the politics habit to safeguard my work or better still my career but one day a realization hits me hard, there is no winner after all. It is the organisation that suffers at the end. At one of the organisations I worked, well my opponents succeeded in making me leave the work but months later, the very person who masterminded my departure called me in need of my service. Well, I provided the needed service to them, but recently when they needed me most I got another job and left the country. So couldn't help them, sorry. Think about it who looses? Sad to say this, at one of the organisations am working with currently, one of the big men (bigot) play politics at the least chance even with his subordinates. Instead of supervising his subordinates, he enjoyed politicking.   Then Boom! Things went bad, money was lost. The Accountants or A...

ARE WE LIBERATED?

Image
My friends know I like Tie and Dye Batik a lot, so I put on Whiteman’s shirt from Monday to Tuesday and the rest of the days in the week are for my Tie and Dye. Something happened one day when I was at Burro, Koforidua. The Americans I work with always fall in love with my Tie and Dye Batiks and that encouraged me to wear more of them. Then Burro got some interns from one of the Universities from U.S. Well they also seem to like my dresses but one day I put on Kasper long-sleeved shirt and one of the interns said,” Today you are dressed up ”.  I took it as an insult to me. But this is where it got interesting, when they were leaving back to the States, all of them including the lady who said that, bought not less than three separate pieces of that same Tie and Dye Batik away. So I asked one of them what he will use them for, he answered he will wear them. Since then I have being asking lots of questions myself and one obvious answer comes to mind. GHANA NEEDS TO RETHINK ...

“GYE NYAME”

Image
The builders’ efforts are futile, except the Lord builds. It is He who watches and the watchman (security man) can sleep and have sweet dreams yet the master is safe. He is the Most High King, the Warrior King; the Lion of Judah who makes lions go hungry even when there is food (Daniel) under their nose. In fact, my imagination tells me that Daniel in the Bible used one of the lions for pillow because in the night there was no bed and pillow to lay his head. He is a Consuming Fire, the Most Holiest, the Most Merciful, the Most Gracious and Incomparable God. He is deeper than anything, wider than anything and higher than anything you can think of. We call Him Father, Provider, King of Kings and a lot more names, but He calls Himself “I AM”. "I" is His first name and "AM" is His last name. I think this is the shortest but most powerful name ever. He has most names, titles and appellations. He says YES and that settles the case and says NO and nobody questions His...
